STORIES OF HOPE

  • Penelope “Penny” Stilwell – Neuroblastoma

Sons Of Charity was not only inspired by Penelope’s brave fight against Neuroblastoma but was proud to assist her and her mother during treatment with household and living expenses. As a single mother at the time she was faced with painful decisions regarding what to pay or not pay as far as utility and other bills since all finances where being exhausted on travel and medical expenses and time lost from work. She received a grant that allowed her to breathe easier and dedicate her full attention to “Penny” as she so lovingly refers to her. From Carina, Penny’s Mommy: “Thank you all so much, your support has been amazing. Penny and I don’t have to worry about bills for the next four months!”

  • Julia Garmo – Neuroblastoma

Most recently we provided a last minute round trip flight from San Diego to New York’s Memorial Sloan Kettering Hospital for 7 year old Julia Garmo and her father when they received her critical & specialized Neuroblastoma treatment schedule with only a few days notice upon the outcome of her blood scans. We were able to get her on the flight there and back which not only alleviated the financial burden for a family of five but virtually eliminated the added stresses of travel arrangements for parents especially¬†when dealing¬†with a little 7 year old cancer patient and very brave little girl who needs special treatment when flying.

  • Logan Ressler – Neuroblastoma

One of the most heartbreaking and bittersweet ways we were able to assist a family last year was with 4 year old Logan Ressler who at the time when this child’s family applied for assistance had already been given word that his battle against Neuroblastoma had taken it’s toll on his little body and only had a little bit of time left. The family was told to prepare. Facing extreme financial hardship and having exhausted all their family resources during brave Logan’s out of state hospitalization where he obtained the best fighting chance, they realized they did not have enough money towards a down payment for his final arrangements and burial plot. We were honored to be able to grant a sizable down payment in Logan’s name to help cover the costs for a service and burial worthy of this courageous little childhood cancer warrior.
